Donné and Babak share a love story that spanned two continents and finally culminated in their beautiful South African ‘destination’ wedding at Lombardini Game Lodge. Donné is South African and Babak is American with Persian/Iranian heritage. Their wedding was a perfect balance of the different cultures with a little bit of everything 🙂
The couple used South African elements throughout their decor as well as indigenous flowers, and honoured Babak’s heritage by having a traditional Persian Sofreh Aghd table in the ceremony area. The Sofreh table houses many items which all serve to bless the couple and the start of their journey together. You can read more about the Sofreh table here.
Babak’s mother made and brought over all the pastries from America, and additionally an imported Iranian Shakh-e-Nabat (rock candy bowl). It all looked so stunning and it was great to be able to read about all the elements and see them there all serving their purpose. You will also see photos from the grinding of the sugar cones above the couples head which serves to shower them with sweetness (such a wonderful tradition!) 🙂
Speaking of equally difficult items to get to South Africa, Donné hauled her exquisite Vera Wang gown with her on the plane, all the way from America! But maaaan was it worth it… she looked ab.so.lutely breathtaking! The wedding day was one of the windiest this season, but Donné and Babak were so at ease and in love even through the wind and cold, which allowed me to get some really beautiful shots!
Thank you so much Donné and Babak, from the bottom of my heart. What an experience! I am so lucky to have shared such an amazing day with both of you. I hope everyone enjoys the photos 🙂
